I’m generally a private person when it comes to my personal life, but when I’m ready to talk about something, I talk about it. Now that I’ve had two successful pregnancies and home births, I feel prepared to share how I prepared for them.
My Pregnancies Were Fully Planned
The first thing to note is that my pregnancies were completely planned. My partner and I picked a date based on my menstrual cycle for when we wanted to conceive, started preparing our bodies six months before, and, by the grace of YAH, made it happen.
Six months before that date, I committed to a structured plan to prepare my body for conception. I focused on four key areas: detoxification, nutrition, exercise and movement, and overall lifestyle adjustments to create the ideal conditions for implantation.
My Six-Month Preconception Routine
This preparation wasn't just about getting pregnant; it was about ensuring my body was balanced, strong, and ready to nurture life. Here’s what I committed to:
1. Detox & Liver Support
Visited the sauna twice a week to improve detoxification and sweat out toxins.
Started green juicing most days to reduce estrogen dominance and support detoxification.
Took a detox supplement four months before conception to clear my liver and gut.
2. Exercise & Movement
Ran twice a week to improve blood flow and insulin sensitivity.
Strength-trained at least three days a week for overall endurance and balance.
Two weeks before my conception date, I avoided strenuous workouts and focused on stretching and slow movements to support implantation.
3. Nutrition & Herbal Support
Took prenatal vitamins every other day, then daily for three months before my planned conception date.
Sipped an herbal infusion of raspberry leaf, nettle, echinacea, and vitex berry twice a day when I remembered, then every day two months before conception.
Committed to one raw food week at the start of each month for months 1–5 leading up to conception.
Increased my raw food consumption to five days a week the month before conception, focusing on smoothies, salads, fruits, and nuts.
Took my Floradix iron supplement religiously to ensure optimal iron levels.
4. Lifestyle & Environmental Adjustments
Reduced toxin exposure by filtering my air and water and choosing clean foods.
Avoided alcohol and caffeine (not a challenge since I don’t consume them anyway).
Focused on prayer and spiritual alignment, asking the Almighty Creator for a healthy pregnancy, birth, and child every day for six months.
Staying Committed Without Perfection
Now, I’m not saying I did these things 100% perfectly every single day, but I was consistent most days. This preconception journey was more than just preparation—it was a transformation. I could feel my body getting stronger, my hormones becoming more balanced, and my overall health improving.
Each step, from the sauna visits to the herbal infusions, played a critical role in preparing my body. It took dedication and commitment, but at the same time, it was empowering. Doing these things not only prepared me physically for pregnancy but also strengthened my mind and emotions for motherhood.
My Biggest Advice for Aspiring Parents
If you're thinking about starting a family, my best advice is to plan it if possible. And even if you can’t plan the exact timing, start preparing your body and mind now by practicing healthy habits daily.
By prioritizing your health, you will fall in love with a wellness-centered lifestyle, and in doing so, you’ll create the best environment for your future child. For me, it was a blessing to conceive naturally, remain plant-based vegan, and have two healthy babies—all while following a similar regimen.
This six-month preparation also gave me greater confidence in delivering at home. I felt equipped, ready, and empowered to bring life into the world most naturally and peacefully possible.
So, if you’re on this journey, trust your body, trust the process, and most importantly, trust YAH. Your preparation today will set the foundation for the beautiful life you're about to nurture.
